Lee Trimble - Creative Director, former Fashion Director at GEN ART

Who was your childhood hero ?
Wonder Woman, the 1970’s TV version with Lynda Carter. I particularly liked the episodes in which she went to Paradise Island to visit her Amazonian family, how they had ferocious warrior prowess underneath gauzy Grecian gowns.

 How do you spend Sunday?

Sundays are my digital detox day - I turn off my phone on Saturday night before bed, and keep it off all day Sunday. It gives me a break from feeling I have to check it all the time, and is like a hard reset for my brain. I generally sleep in, then go to ballet class; I trained to be a ballerina growing up and still take class for exercise. I find it really uplifting and cathartic, it clears out any lingering stress or worries from the previous week.

During the pandemic I took virtual classes by NYCB principal dancer Tiler Peck, which were              a lifesaver during the first six months of lockdown when you couldn’t go to any kind of    group class or be around people in a closed environment. I’d use my kitchen counter as a     barre, trying not to knock into anything in my tiny NYC apartment.

After class I usually take an Epsom salts bath if my muscles are sore, then read the NY Times or a book. I got really into reading Ursula K. Le Guin during the pandemic, and just finished Circe by Madeline Miller, which is a retelling of Greek myth through the perspective of a goddess. It was a really fun and beautiful story. In the evenings I’ll watch TV - I love Pluto TV, its free, and they have entire channels dedicated to particular shows like The Addams Family, I Love Lucy and Jeopardy. There is also a Staff Picks channel with some great, unexpected movies - I watched American Animals recently and it blew me away.

On Sundays I go to sleep early, like 9:30 or 10, because my phone isn’t keeping me awake. Having no social media to look at or emails to check is really relaxing, but also strangely fortifying, like taking a stand for my own peace of mind.

If you had to wear one outfit from head to toe every day for a year, what would it be?

A pair of black pants I got from Hommegirls a diffusion line by Thakoon that has a really cool androgynous aesthetic, a cozy black turtleneck sweater by La Ligne, super comfy Baserange underneath, and a pair of white Bart Sneakers by Isabel Marant.

Basically I’d want to dress like Phoebe Philo when she was at Celine – chic and casual, but serious.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life?

Rosamund Pike.

What is your cringiest fashion faux pas?

A pair of Rocket Dog black oxfords I wore in the late 90’s. They had an insanely thick foam rubber platform sole. I wore them ALL the time, and it’s a miracle I didn’t fall and break my neck.

If you had intro music, what song would it be?

Song to the Siren by This Mortal Coil. I’ve always had a thing for mermaids – ever since age 3 when I saw the Hans Christian Andersen version of The Little Mermaid – so this seems right.
