Domi’s Top 5 Tips for a Better Nights Sheep

Tired of all the “Wind Down” Yoga podcasts, and “science-backed” sleep apps that never truly get you there?  Let’s get real, Domi is here to hand you the good stuff, the kind of stuff any heavy-sleeping, life-of-the-party woman with a nickel’s worth of advice is sure to hand you.

We know you’ve tried the next best meditation tape with no avail, chanted out the wazoo, and guzzled down every last of those nasty adaptogenic sleep aids that are constantly being pushed onto you by your local wellness community- WE GET IT.  If you are sitting here nodding in agreement, well you are in luck...The suggestions below may not replace the advice of your usual MD, but Domi is sure to know a trick or two for the alternative-minded insomniac looking for some better shut-eye.

Test out the tips below, and we would be darned if those sheep don’t come knocking at your door in no time.

SEX

Sex for one, sex for two, we don’t need to tread lightly here, you deserve pleasure and most importantly you deserve to sleep! The orgasm’s ability to lull us into the sleep-inducing comfort of a sultry nighttime hiss has a winning statistic in its ability to produce the “feel good” hormone Oxytocin. Oxytocin naturally counteracts stress, quiets the mind, relaxes the body, and politely tells the rowdy little terror in our head to “SHUT IT DOWN UP THERE!”.

WINE

Wine-Not? Try white instead of red. The sugar in white is much lower and less likely to dysregulate blood sugar - A potential cause of your 2 AM post-pinot wake-up call, giving you the kind of dream-thwarting frustration that leaves you seeing redder than the wine you just drank. Try a white, and if that doesn’t work, pour another glass- If it doesn’t help put you to bed, It surely makes whining about it much more fun.

WEED

Who cares? Well…our insomnia does. For best results add a few drops of a CBD/THC 1:1 tincture to your wine, the wine will put you to sleep, and the THC will keep you asleep. We sell pure CBD drops in the shop for those who want to keep things a little lighter. Tune in and drop out here.

FILM

If you are a movie sleeper, then foreign films are your new best friend. The slow burn of a plot line married with the amount of focus it takes to read subtitles is better than any meditation tape we’ve ever played. Try one outside the scope of a language you already know, that’s where this tactic works its magic ~

Some of our favorites are below:

Remains of the Day- 1993
Not foreign language, but British? , a very slow tale of almost unrequited love, if you are really ambitious ( and sleep-starved) the book is even better.

Roma  - 2018
A beautiful film that we’ve seen the first 20 minutes of at least 20 times - no more and no less.

The 400 Blows - 1959
Francois Truffaut's 'The 400 Blows' is one of the most well-known films of this movement, and has been embraced and hailed as one of the greatest films of all time. The story of A young boy, left without attention, delves into a life of petty crime.

The Bicycle Thieves - 1948
In post-war Italy, a working-class man's bicycle is stolen, endangering his efforts to find work. He and his son set out to find it In post-war Italy. A beautiful film with a pretty grim ending,  fortunately, if you watch it at bedtime you will likely not make it that far.

Broken Circle Breakdown - 2012
if you loved Betty Blue, you must see this, not sure why it is not more broadly known, the soundtrack is impossibly great.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being- 1988
Central Europe, 1968: A Czech doctor with an active sex life meets a woman who wants monogamy, and then the Soviet invasion further disrupts their lives. We give this film a 10/10 as an excellent companion to some solo “Ménage à moi”  ;)

Ju Dou- 1990, (The silk mill scenes are really remarkable if you make it that far)
A woman married to the brutal and infertile owner of a dye mill in rural China conceives a boy with her husband's nephew but is forced to raise her son as her husband's heir without revealing his parentage in this circular tragedy.

Cinema Paradiso- 1988
Set in a small Sicilian town, the film centers on the friendship between a young boy and an aging projectionist who works at the titular movie theatre, sweet and sentimental. Deserves a daytime  viewing as well.

Jean de Florette/ Manon des Sources - 1986
The story takes place in rural Provence, where two local farmers plot to trick a newcomer out of his newly inherited property. It stars Gerard Depardieu, in a very swoony french countryside.

Wings of Desire - 1987
The film is about invisible, immortal angels who populate Berlin and listen to the thoughts of its human inhabitants, comforting the distressed. What could be more perfect?

I LOVED drifting through this note in the course of two days (yes — easily distracted) It was written beautifully and was engaging. Just as I LOVE Domi PJs. If you’re inspired to do another — a topic to consider — spending the day inside whilst it’s dreary and rainy outside. (maybe making the effort to change into Domi loungers and a tee.
